During the morning worship service on July 17th, Dr. David E. Gilbert accepted our call!  His first full-time Sunday will be at the annual Crab Orchard fort outdoor worship service on August 21st.

David is the second of four children and grew up in a loving family in Duluth, Minnesota. His family later moved to San Diego where Dave graduated from the University of California at San Diego.  He then attended the University of California, Hastings College of Law, in San Francisco.  For several years he practiced as a maritime litigation attorney in San Diego.  In 1988, he heeded God’s call to ministry, and went to Princeton Theological Seminary, graduating in 1990.  Since his ordination he has served four congregations.

In 1990, Dave accepted the call serve as Pastor of Community of Grace Presbyterian Church in Sandy, Utah, a new church development just years earlier.  Dave served the congregation, helping it to grow.  Within seven years, the  congregation doubled in membership and was able to add a Christian Education wing to its church facility.  In 1997, he accepted the call as Pastor to John Knox Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  In the ten year that Dave served this congregation, it grew in mission giving and outreach to the community and beyond.  It also completed a building renovation and expansion project.  In 2007, he accepted the call as Pastor to Poland Presbyterian Church in Poland, Ohio, where he served for seven years.  During his time at Poland Presbyterian, he assisted the congregation in becoming more ecumenically engaged in the community.  Most recently he has served as temporary covenant pastor of Wickliffe Presbyterian Church in Austintown, Ohio.  Dave helped this church, which had experienced loss and ongoing conflicts, to experience healing, hope, and a renewed focus for ministry.

Dave and his wife Lynn married in 2010.  Dave has two children, Geoff, 29, and Dan, 20.  Lynn has two children, Sharon, 35, and Brian, 33. Lynn also has three grandsons.  He enjoys taking walks, playing golf and ping pong, and is an avid reader.  He and Lynn also like to travel, especially making long road trips and seeing countries abroad.

Dave’s aim in all things is, with God’s help, to make a positive difference in people’s lives – giving encouragement in the journey of faith, and coaching/leading for effective Christian service.

Please join us on August 21st for this special service and church picnic to meet David and his family!
